4. Product Introduction (Anti-Template)

When the four relays on a standard IOC4T card are not enough for all required alarm and trip functions, the RLC16 adds sixteen change-over contacts. It mounts in the rear of a VM600 rack and connects directly to the backplane. Each relay is driven by open-collector signals from the protection or monitoring cards and can be set by jumpers as normally energized or normally de-energized.

All contacts are brought out to screw terminals at the rear of the rack for easy field wiring. The card is hot-swappable, low-capacitance, and designed for the continuous duty of machinery protection systems on turbines, compressors, pumps, and other critical rotating equipment.

5. QC, Procurement & Logistics SOP

  1. Inbound Verification – Confirm full markings (RLC16, 200-570-000-111 / 200-570-101-015 or equivalent), jumper positions, terminal condition, and relay contact integrity. Photograph labels.
  2. Live Rig Testing – Install in a compatible VM600 rack, drive relays from a processing card (or test source), and verify correct contact operation, NE/NDE behavior, and absence of contact welding or high resistance.
  3. QA & Anti-Static Packaging – After functional pass, protect terminals, clean the card, and seal in anti-static shielding with desiccant and humidity indicator.
  4. Global Logistics & Export Compliance – Classify under the correct HS code for industrial relay modules. Packaging is rated for air and sea freight vibration; export documentation is prepared to minimize customs delays.

6. Technical Pitfalls & Integration Warnings

Jumper Configuration Errors – Incorrect NE/NDE jumper settings reverse the fail-safe logic of trip circuits. Always verify the required state against the protection philosophy before installation.

Open-Collector Drive Limits – Relays are driven by the open-collector outputs of the associated processing cards. Overloading the bus or incorrect wiring can prevent reliable actuation.

Contact Load Matching – Exceeding the 5 A / 250 VAC rating or switching highly inductive loads without suppression reduces relay life and can cause welding. Use appropriate contact protection.

Rack Position & Compatibility – The RLC16 occupies a rear slot and must be used with compatible VM600 racks and processing cards. Mixing with later Mk2 generations may require verification of bus behavior.

7. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the realistic global lead time for a verified RLC16?
Stock units typically ship within 1–5 business days after verification. Air freight adds standard transit time once released.

How many relays does the RLC16 provide?
Sixteen change-over (SPDT) relays, each with COM, NO, and NC contacts.

Where is the card installed?
In the rear of a VM600 series rack (ABE04x or ABE056). Screw terminals are accessible from the rear of the rack.

Can the relays be configured as normally energized or de-energized?
Yes. Jumpers on the card select NE or NDE operation for the relays.

When is an RLC16 required?
When the built-in relays on IOC4T or IOC8T cards are insufficient for the number of alarm and trip outputs needed by the application.

Is the card hot-swappable?
Yes. It supports live insertion and removal in a powered VM600 rack.

Are there different versions?
Yes. Standard versions (e.g., 200-570-000-1Hh family) and “separate circuits” versions compliant with certain IEC standards exist. Confirm the exact ordering number for the required variant.
