Honeywell identifies TC-CCN014 as a single-media ControlNet Interface (CNI), Series E. It supersedes earlier TC-CCN011, TC-CCN012, and TC-CCN013 models and is used in Experion PKS C200 controller architectures.

The CNI provides the ControlNet communication path between the server/controller environment and I/O networks. Honeywell documentation allows up to five CNI modules in a configured controller chassis: one uplink and up to four additional downlink CNIs, depending on the architecture.

Product Introduction (Anti-Template)
When a C200 controller suddenly loses its ControlNet communication path, replacing an I/O module will not solve the problem. The Honeywell TC-CCN014 sits at the network interface layer, providing the ControlNet connection used to communicate between the Experion environment, C200 controllers, and associated I/O networks. It is a Series E, single-media CNI designed for this specific control architecture.
One important detail is easy to miss: TC-CCN014 is the non-redundant-media version. If the plant uses dual ControlNet media, the required module is from the TC-CCR014/TK-CCR014 family instead. Honeywell’s hardware planning documentation makes this distinction explicit.

QC, Procurement & Logistics SOP
- Inbound Verification
- Confirm the complete model: TC-CCN014.
- Check the Series E identification and serial number.
- Inspect the module housing, connector interface, LEDs, and mounting mechanism.
- Verify that the customer’s chassis is a compatible configuration.
- Confirm that the existing network uses single-media ControlNet.
- Check whether the installed system previously used TC-CCN011, TC-CCN012, or TC-CCN013.
- Live Rig Testing
- Install the module in a compatible test chassis.
- Verify normal startup and diagnostic indications.
- Establish ControlNet communication with suitable test equipment.
- Check network status and communication stability.
- Verify controller-to-network communication under representative traffic.
- Record the hardware revision and test results.
- QA & Anti-Static Packaging
- Photograph the complete identification label before packing.
- Place the CNI in an ESD-safe bag.
- Protect the ControlNet connector and front-panel components.
- Use rigid cushioning to prevent connector damage.
- Add moisture protection for international transportation.
- Global Logistics & Export Compliance
- Prepare the commercial invoice, packing list, product description, country-of-origin information, and applicable HS classification.
- Describe the item accurately as an industrial ControlNet interface module for DCS control hardware.
- Air shipment is generally practical for a single module.
- Use anti-static and impact-resistant packaging for air or sea freight.
- Confirm the final HS classification with the destination customs broker before export declaration.

Technical Pitfalls & Integration Warnings
1. Single Media vs. Redundant Media
This is the most important compatibility check.
is the single-media CNI. Honeywell specifies TC-CCR014/TK-CCR014 for redundant ControlNet media.
Scenario: A plant has dual ControlNet cables and a redundant network architecture, but procurement orders TC- because the base model number looks similar. The module may be genuine and functional, yet it does not provide the required redundant-media interface.
Do not approve the replacement until the network topology is confirmed.
2. Earlier CNI Revision
Honeywell states that TC- supersedes TC-CCN011, TC-CCN012, and TC-CCN013.
That does not mean every installation should be upgraded blindly. Check the Experion release, controller configuration, and maintenance documentation before replacing an older CNI with a newer revision.
3. Redundant Controller Configuration
The CNI configuration has to match the controller architecture.
Honeywell’s planning documentation specifies TC- for non-redundant ControlNet media and identifies TC-CCR014/TK- as the redundant-media choice, particularly in redundant controller arrangements.
A communication card can therefore be electrically healthy but still be the wrong choice for the plant’s network design.
4. ESD and Connector Damage
The CNI is an electronic communication module. Do not remove it from its ESD packaging until installation.
A damaged ControlNet connector can create intermittent network faults that look like a software or cable problem. Honestly, checking the physical connector before troubleshooting the controller can save hours.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: What is Honeywell TC-?
It is a Series E, single-media ControlNet Interface module used in Honeywell Experion PKS/ control architectures.
Q2: Is TC- a ControlNet adapter or a CNI?
It is a ControlNet Interface (CNI) installed in the controller chassis. Its purpose is to provide the ControlNet communication interface between the controller environment and connected networks.
Q3: Does TC- support redundant ControlNet media?
No. TC- is the single-media version. For redundant ControlNet media, Honeywell specifies the TC-/TK- family.
Q4: Can TC- replace an older TC-CCN013?
Honeywell identifies TC- as the successor to TC-CCN013, as well as TC-CCN012 and TC-CCN011.
For an operating plant, however, verify the Experion software version and existing chassis/network configuration before treating the replacement as a plug-and-play change.
Q5: Where is TC- installed?
It is installed in a controller chassis. Honeywell’s hardware planning documentation lists it as the single-media CNI option for control hardware.
Q6: What is the approximate weight?
A commonly published specification gives approximately 0.5 kg for the module. For freight planning, I would allow roughly 1 kg packed unless the final carton dimensions are already known.
Q7: Can TC- be hot-swapped?
Do not assume that removing a CNI from an operating controller chassis is harmless. Honeywell’s installation guidance specifically instructs technicians to ensure that no power is applied to the chassis during the CNI installation/removal procedure.
The plant’s approved maintenance and bypass procedure should take priority.
Q8: What information should I provide when ordering TC-?
For a reliable replacement check, provide:
- TC- part number
- Hardware/Series revision
- Photograph of the existing module
- chassis model
- Experion system version
- Whether the ControlNet network is single-media or redundant
- Existing CNI model
- Current communication alarm or diagnostic information
For this part, network topology is the critical matching parameter. The question is not simply whether the module is TC-; it is whether the customer’s architecture actually requires a single-media Series E CNI.
